You are right - recent events are getting teachers fired up (and for good reason). It does always feel like teachers are blamed for everything when there are KEY elements that are being overlooked. The article talks about how the role of family and student accountability being the main things being overlooked. I don't think that people realize that what we're able to do as teachers (and where our students "end up") is determined by where they are when we get them. We have no control over values and practices at home (or lack there of). Oiy!
