Akron, Ohio has prosecuted a woman who used her father's address to ensure that her children went to a better school http://newsfeed.time.com/2011/01/26/ohio-mom-jailed-for-sending-her-kids-to-a-better-school/.
Should she go to jail? Would all of us do the same for our children?
This is unbelievable to me, and I find the whole story appalling on every level. I would do the same in a heartbeat.
ReplyDeleteWould and did. When my son was in 6th grade, his teacher left for medical reasons and his class soon became out of control. I wanted him switched out of that class. I went to the principal, the school board, and superintendent to voice my concerns and ask that he be moved. He was denied, so my husband and I moved him to a different district. Fortunately for us, we did not have to change addresses because of schools of choice. Kudos to that woman for looking out for her children and wanting a better education for them.
ReplyDeleteI could not believe this story when I heard it on the news last week. So parents are jailed for not sending their children to school AND if they send them to a better school? Wow, talk about mixed messages. The report on this story that I saw also said that the mother was only 12 credits away from having her own teaching degree and that because of what happened, it is most likely in jeopardy. This mother should not be jailed! A badge of honor would be more appropriate. We need more parents that care and are actively involved in the education of their children.
ReplyDeleteAs a parent, you want to do the best for your children. You want them to have the best out of life. This mother did what she felt was needed for her children. I can't understand why she would be jailed. You have parents that don't send their children to school. You have parents that aren't active in their children's education for those that do go to school. You have parents that do many negative things in the sight of their children. What happens to these parents? To most, absolutely nothing happens to them. Why jail a mother that is looking out for the best interest of her children's future?
